About Moms & More
Moms & More is a non-profit parent organization based in West Hartford. We have been a facet of the Farmington Valley community since 2001, supporting thousands of families through their early childhood and parenthood years. Moms & More is run by it’s board of directors which is comprised entirely of volunteers. Our mission is to bring a small town atmosphere into our larger community.
Our members are stay at home parents, working parents, expecting parents, and caretakers/nannies located primarily in West Hartford and surrounding communities.
Founding of Moms & More
Moms & More was founded in October 2001 by Leslie St Amant. Halloween across the country was cancelled due to 9/11. Families were broken and feeling disconnected. Leslie approached the town and businesses to establish a Halloween parade (the annual Halloween Stroll!) so our children could still be children and parents could forget about the tragedy and feel “normal” for 1 day.
Leslie enlisted the help of a few friends. They walked door to door collecting newspapers and store announcements/ events. They met once a month at the Elmwood Community Center and spent hours calling, photocopying (no email yet!) and creating a statewide calendar of events for families. Working moms didn’t know about “Firehouse Days” and “Library Groups” so our founders created a newsletter and mailed it out to our first members. Some of the first events that appeared on the newsletter were My Gym classes, library days, corn mazes, museums etc... They developed playgroups, TLC/Meal Train, and advice for new moms. After 3 years of running the group, Leslie and her friends created a board of directors. With our first membership dues, they purchased a computer to communicate more effectively.
Over the past 20 years, Moms & More has flourished into a supportive community for parents, providing children’s events, parent’s nights out and charity events in our community. Our Facebook page still serves as a support system for moms. TLC/Meal Train and playgroups continue to this day, and an annual event - the “Halloween Stroll” has become a much anticipated and cherished event in our community.
It is thanks to these founding members, moms who wanted to make a difference, that we have our beloved group today.
On behalf of our Board of Directors and our Moms & More Community,
